Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
An important official stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
